SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – Early morning drivers on Interstate 75 faced delays today after a tractor-trailer hauling a load of tomatoes caught fire near the 333 Milepost in Sumter County.

The incident occurred around 2:40 AM, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

The FHP reported that the southbound tractor-trailer experienced a mechanical issue, which led to the trailer becoming engulfed in flames.

Fortunately, quick action by the driver prevented a more serious situation. The unnamed driver was able to successfully disconnect the tractor (cab) from the burning trailer before the fire spread. The driver was reported to be uninjured in the incident.

While the tractor was saved, the trailer and its cargo of tomatoes were completely consumed by the fire.
