Fire Erupts After BMW Crashes Into Ditch Off I-275 Near Sligh Avenue In Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – A 20-year-old Tampa man escaped without injury late Saturday night after his vehicle crashed and caught fire off Interstate 275. The Florida Highway Patrol reported the single-vehicle accident occurred at approximately 11:10 PM on April 18, 2026.

Investigators determined that the man was driving a BMW 328i northbound near Milepost 48. As the driver attempted a last-second lane change to reach the Sligh Avenue exit, he lost control of the car.

The vehicle traveled onto the shoulder, struck a fence, and came to a rest in a ditch.

Once the vehicle stopped, it caught fire. The driver was able to evacuate the BMW before it was consumed by flames.

Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident.
