LAKELAND, Fla. – The Lakeland Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the Imperial Swan Hotel & Suites, located at 4141 S. Florida Avenue, early Friday morning.

Firefighters arrived around 5:40 am to find an evacuation already underway, with audible alarms sounding throughout the building and water flowing from the sprinkler system in the second-floor room where the fire originated.

Fire crews quickly entered the building to ensure the safety of all occupants and contain the situation. Unfortunately, a dog was found deceased in the room where the fire originated. No other occupants were in the room at the time firefighters arrived.

While guests were initially evacuated, they were later allowed to briefly reenter the building to retrieve their belongings. However, due to existing fire code violations, the Fire Marshal deemed it unsafe for guests to remain in the facility.

The cause of the fire has been turned over to the State Fire Marshal for investigation. Inquiries about the fire’s cause should be directed to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The Imperial Swan Hotel & Suites was currently housing FEMA Transitional Sheltering Assistance (TSA) displaced disaster survivors. These survivors will need to relocate and can identify other TSA-participating hotels using the following link: https://www.femaemergencyhotels.com/. They can also contact a TSA agent at 1-800-621-3362 for assistance in locating a new hotel.
