Just a day after former Rep. Joe Harding resigned from the Florida House, the first candidate has emerged to try to replace him.
Belleview Republican Ryan Chamberlin opened a campaign account Friday to run in Marion County’s House District 24, according to the state Division of Elections website.
Harding, R-Ocala, resigned Thursday after being indicted on charges of wire fraud, money laundering, and making false statements.

Harding, who was first elected in 2020 and ran unopposed this year, is accused of fraudulently obtaining coronavirus-related business loans. It is unclear when a special election will be held to fill the seat.
