Following the designation of Antifa as a domestic terror organization by President Donald Trump, the FBI announced on Thursday that terrorism charges have been brought against suspects involved in a July 4 attack on the Prairieland Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Alvarado, Texas.
FBI Director Kash Patel stated the charges are a first for the U.S. Department of Justice, posting on X that the FBI “arrested Antifa-aligned anarchist violent extremists and terrorism charges have been brought for the July 4 Prairieland ICE attack in Texas.”
Patel noted that “Under President Trump’s new authorities, we’ve made 20+ arrests,” adding that “No one gets to harm law enforcement.”
The July 4 ambush shooting at the ICE Prairieland Detention Facility resulted in one officer being shot and injured. Homeland Security reported that “nearly a dozen violent assailants equipped with tactical gear and weapons” attacked the facility. Eleven suspects were arrested in connection with the incident.
The announcement comes after President Trump officially designated Antifa as a terror organization. The Prairieland attack is one of several recent incidents targeting ICE facilities across the country, including a shooting at an ICE facility in Dallas, where two detainees were killed.
