Two men from Springfield, Massachusetts, have been sentenced to five years in federal prison for operating a drug trafficking ring armed with handguns in Rutland County.

On Monday, Chief U.S. District Judge Christina Reiss sentenced 27-year-old Geison Reynoso to 60 months behind bars, followed by three years of supervised release. The ruling mirrors the sentence handed down in October to his co-conspirator, 26-year-old Davon Lee.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont, the pair spent over a year transporting and distributing cocaine and cocaine base throughout the area.

Court records outline a conspiracy that ran from 2023 until the spring of 2024. Law enforcement first intercepted the operation in February 2024, seizing two backpacks belonging to Reynoso and Lee. Inside, officers found a significant quantity of drugs, cash, and two firearms.

Despite the seizure, the pair was not taken into custody until two months later. On April 25, 2024, a traffic stop and subsequent vehicle search led police to three additional firearms, more U.S. currency, and another large supply of controlled substances.

Both men eventually pleaded guilty, admitting they possessed the weapons specifically to further their drug distribution efforts.

In addition to the prison terms, Judge Reiss ordered the forfeiture of five handguns and $17,147 in cash seized during the investigation.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael P. Drescher credited the successful prosecution to a collaborative operation involving the FBI, Vermont State Police, and police departments from both Rutland City and Rutland Town.
