PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – Emergency crews in Pasco County are working to contain a 200-acre brush fire burning near State Road 52 and Ehren Cutoff.
The Pasco County Fire Rescue and the Florida Forest Service are currently on the scene. Crews are aggressively cutting containment lines into the vegetation and using backburning operations—a technique in which small, controlled fires are set to burn up fuel ahead of the main wildfire—to halt the spread of flames. Early indicators suggest that a lightning strike may have started the fire.
While working the active fire lines, crews discovered a baby deer caught in a nearby fence. The fawn had sustained visible injuries to its hooves and was unable to free itself.
Firefighters successfully extracted the animal from the fence and coordinated its transport out of the fire zone. The fawn is now in the custody of the Owl’s Nest Sanctuary for Wildlife, where veterinary staff is treating its injuries.
Containment operations on the 200-acre burn area remain active.
