TAMPA, Fla. – A heavy fire broke out Friday evening at the Tampa Yacht & Country Club marina, drawing a large response from local emergency crews as flames jumped between docked boats. Tampa Fire Rescue was dispatched to the scene at approximately 7:36 p.m. following reports of smoke rising from the water.
When the first units arrived, they found a single vessel completely engulfed in flames. Firefighters reported that the fire was concentrated in the boat’s interior cabin and was intense enough to spread to a nearby second vessel.
Both TFR fireboats and ground crews worked in tandem to establish a steady water supply. While some firefighters tackled the main blaze, additional units focused on containment to prevent the fire from reaching dozens of other boats in the crowded marina.
According to officials, the two vessels involved were ‘unmanned’ when the fire started.
A third unoccupied boat, parked close to the blaze, suffered minor damage from exposure to extreme heat.
Tampa Fire Rescue officials confirmed that the fire was successfully brought under control later in the evening. No injuries were reported by civilians or first responders during the operation. Investigators are currently on-site to determine the exact cause of the fire.
