In defense of the administration’s move against the Venezuelan regime, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi appeared on Hannity Monday to outline the legal framework authorizing the dramatic capture of Nicolás Maduro.

Brushing aside critics who questioned the executive branch’s unilateral action, Bondi framed the operation not as a diplomatic overstep, but as a precise “law enforcement function” firmly rooted in Article II of the Constitution.

“This was well within the president’s Article II powers,” Bondi asserted during the segment, directly addressing arguments that congressional approval was a necessary precursor. She described the military’s extraction of Maduro and his wife as a “flawless execution,” emphasizing that the operation has immediately stabilized security across the Western Hemisphere.

The Attorney General detailed a litany of charges awaiting the Venezuelan leader in the Southern District of New York, where he is currently being held.

According to Bondi, the indictment goes far beyond political corruption. Prosecutors allege Maduro directed a criminal enterprise responsible for kidnappings, murders, and the flooding of the U.S. with “hundreds and hundreds of tons of cocaine.”

Bondi painted a grim picture of the regime’s reach, explicitly linking Maduro to the Tren de Aragua (TDA) gang—a criminal organization she blamed for a recent wave of violence on American soil.

“This monster released countless defendants, prisons, [and] insane asylums into our country,” Bondi said, connecting the foreign leader directly to domestic public safety concerns. She cited specific victims to underscore the human cost of the alleged state-sponsored trafficking, arguing that the capture saved “countless lives.”

The legal battle is set to be spearheaded by Jay Clayton in New York, though Bondi hinted that the current indictment might just be the opening salvo.

With other high-profile co-defendants also facing charges—including Maduro’s son and TDA head Nino Guerrero—the Attorney General warned that federal prosecutors are casting a wide net.

“Nothing is off the table,” Bondi declared, suggesting that while the Southern District is the current venue, the scope of justice could expand as the investigation unfolds. For now, the administration is standing firm: the capture was legal, the target was a high-level trafficker, and the jurisdiction is American.
