Following the release of the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) December jobs report Friday, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) criticized the Biden administration for what he described as misleading claims about the state of the U.S. economy. The report revealed a troubling shift in the job market, with over 350,000 full-time jobs lost in December, while part-time employment rose by nearly 188,000.
The data, Scott argues, underscores the economic instability many Americans face, with families increasingly relying on part-time work to make ends meet amidst rising inflation and stagnant wages.
Senator Scott released a statement accusing the Biden administration of painting an overly optimistic picture of the economy while ignoring the struggles of everyday Americans.

“Joe Biden is lying to the American people about the state of the American economy, and this is exactly why they voted for change by electing President Trump,” Scott said. “When I travel around Florida and talk to families, I hear heartbreaking stories about parents having to take on part-time work after losing their jobs or scraping by just to put food on the table. Growing up in public housing, I saw firsthand the struggles of families working hard but still not getting ahead. A new day is on the horizon with President Trump’s America First policies.”
Scott linked the job losses to the Biden administration’s policies, which he described as “reckless” and “radical,” and expressed optimism about the incoming Trump administration’s ability to restore economic stability.
While the administration highlighted a gain of 256,000 jobs in December based on the adjusted total employment establishment survey, Scott and critics pointed to alternative data that paints a bleaker picture:
- Full-time jobs lost: 350,000
- Unadjusted total employment (Establishment Survey): 81,000 jobs lost
- Unadjusted total employment (Household Survey): 162,000 jobs lost
- Part-time jobs gained: 188,000

This discrepancy, Scott argues, reveals the disconnect between the administration’s narrative and the realities faced by American families.
According to Scott, rising inflation, skyrocketing prices for everyday goods, and increasing reliance on part-time work highlight an unstable economic landscape. The senator emphasized that while the administration claims job growth, the quality of jobs and their impact on families’ financial security remain inadequate.
“Job growth under the Biden administration is not translating to economic stability for millions of Americans,” Scott said. “Instead of misleading headlines, folks back home deserve real solutions that restore economic prosperity.”

Scott pledged to continue advocating for economic reforms to address what he described as a “debt crisis” and the damaging effects of inflation. He expressed confidence in President-elect Trump’s upcoming administration to implement America First policies aimed at creating full-time jobs and reducing inflation.
“On January 20th, Trump is taking office with a mandate to fix the problems burdening the American people under the Biden administration,” Scott said.
Senator Scott’s remarks reflect growing criticism from Republicans about the state of the U.S. economy under the Biden administration. As the new administration prepares to take office, the senator is calling for immediate action to address inflation, restore full-time employment, and rebuild economic stability for American families.
