Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has issued an investigative subpoena to KIS Consulting, LLC, launching a formal inquiry into how the firm advertises property inspections, markets defect claims, and steers homeowners toward third-party lawyers and engineers.
The state’s investigation centers on the company’s business model, particularly its door-to-door sales pitches and the financial arrangements surrounding its referrals for construction, design, architectural, and engineering defect claims.
State officials are looking into whether the company collected undisclosed fees or misled residents when connecting them to outside professionals.
“Florida homeowners deserve transparent and fair treatment when addressing potential defects in their homes—not practices that drive up the cost of homeownership,” Uthmeier said in a statement. “My office is investigating these inspection and referral operations to ensure they truly serve the interests of the families they claim to help.”
The legal demand covers records spanning from August 20, 2022, to the present. Company representatives have until September 21, 2026, to turn over the requested documentation to the state.
Investigators are demanding all consumer-facing advertisements, employee training handbooks, and internal guidance on door-to-door solicitation tactics. The subpoena also requires KIS Consulting to hand over copies of its “Attorney Selection Forms,” consumer communication logs, engineering referral records, and detailed breakdowns of any referral fees paid or received.
Additionally, the state is seeking complete repair estimates, invoices, building permits, engineering assessments, and on-site photographs linked to customer properties, alongside a comprehensive list of all Florida consumers who received inspections.
The company must also disclose every employee or independent contractor who solicited business on its behalf and submit any records of consumer complaints, prior investigations, or legal disputes tied to its services.
