The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is celebrating a historic achievement in recreational fishing. Gregg Lewis has become the first-ever Grand Slam Master Angler in the Catch a Florida Memory program.
This prestigious title recognizes Lewis’s dedication and skill in achieving all eight Grand Slams offered in the program. The journey, which began in 2020, required him to catch specific combinations of saltwater fish species across various categories, including shoreline, reefs, and offshore fishing.

Lewis’s quest for the Grand Slam Master Angler title was a testament to his perseverance and strategic planning. He faced numerous challenges, including the elusive Shoreline Grand Slam, which took him years to complete. He also embarked on a whirlwind fishing trip across Florida to achieve the Reefs and Rubble Grand Slam and the Near Shore Grand Slam.
The Catch a Florida Memory program encourages anglers to explore Florida’s diverse fisheries while promoting responsible and sustainable fishing practices. Lewis’s achievement highlights the program’s success in fostering a passion for conservation and celebrating the accomplishments of dedicated anglers.
