A South Florida elementary school assistant principal faces criminal charges after deputies said he assaulted his wife during a late-night argument over a phone and a missing television remote.
Deputies arrested 53-year-old Marc Scott Horowitz at his Weston home late Friday night. He was charged with domestic violence battery and robbery by sudden snatching, according to court records.
“On scene, deputies learned an adult male, identified as Marc S. Horowitz, was involved in a domestic disturbance where he physically assaulted an adult individual and snatched the person’s phone,” a Broward County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said.
According to an arrest affidavit, the couple had been drinking before the dispute began. Horowitz allegedly snatched his wife’s cellphone and left the residence. Upon returning, he demanded the TV remote, and when his wife could not find it, he pushed her to the floor with both hands against her chest.
Horowitz, an assistant principal at Orange Brook Elementary School in Hollywood, has been removed from his position.
“He is being reassigned from the school following an off-campus incident pending further Human Resources review and action, which may include termination,” Broward County Public Schools said in a statement.
Broward Teachers Union President Anna Fusco told WFOR that prior concerns had been raised about Horowitz’s temper, adding, “When I heard the word battery, it’s an allegation, and I hope that they’re not true, but if they are, I just feel that he shouldn’t be around children.”
Horowitz was released Monday on a $3,000 bond and ordered to have no contact with his wife.
