Authorities spent hours Monday executing a search warrant at a Palm City home where investigators uncovered a large-scale animal hoarding situation involving up to two dozen Border Collies. The images from the scene are disturbing.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office and Martin County Animal Services served the warrant at a property in the 1200 block of SW Alligator Street following an extended investigation into the condition of the animals and the property.
By Monday afternoon, officers had safely removed approximately eight dogs from the residence, though officials estimated up to 20 animals could still be inside.
Rescuers, clad in full Tyvek protective suits to navigate heavy accumulations of feces, urine, and piles of household debris, worked through the interior to search for and extract the remaining dogs.
The homeowner was taken into custody at the scene.
Animal Services officers and sheriff’s detectives remain on site to complete the rescue operation, clear the residence, and evaluate the physical condition of all seized animals. Charges and further details regarding the homeowner’s identity have not yet been released.
