Florida Beach Burglar Gets Life Behind Bars After 1-Day Trial

A Florida man is now facing the rest of his life in prison following a swift trial and a guilty verdict delivered by a local jury. Michael King was convicted of burglary while armed after a single day of testimony, leading to an immediate life sentence handed down by the court.

The case dates back to March 14, 2025, when King broke into a residence in Daytona Beach. The intrusion didn’t go unnoticed; a witness spotted King inside the house and immediately contacted 911.

When officers from the Daytona Beach Police Department arrived on the scene, they conducted a search of the defendant and discovered a knife tucked into his pocket. Investigators later confirmed the weapon actually belonged to the homeowner and had been taken from inside the residence during the break-in.

As the investigation unfolded, the homeowner alerted police that cash was missing from his bedroom. A subsequent search of King’s backpack turned up the stolen money along with several other personal items taken from the home.

Officers also found a ski mask and a pair of gloves inside the bag, neither of which belonged to the property owner.

Because of his extensive criminal history, the court designated King as both a Prison Releasee Reoffender and a Habitual Felony Offender. These designations paved the way for the Honorable Kathleen McNeilly to impose the maximum penalty of life in prison immediately after the jury returned its verdict.

“Another career criminal off our streets for good,” State Attorney R.J. Larizza said following the sentencing. “Your prosecutors are committed to protecting you and your family. Let them know you appreciate their efforts the next time you cross their path.”

Assistant State Attorney Amie Assent led the prosecution for the State of Florida, while the Daytona Beach Police Department handled the initial investigation that led to King’s arrest.
