Florida Cold Case: Melanie Warren Killed in a Drive-By Shooting, 1992

On Sunday, May 24, 1992, at 11:26 p.m. Melanie Warren was sitting alone on the front porch of a friend’s house at 1012 Jones Street in Clearwater, Florida, when she was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting.

Warren was 15-years old at the time of her murder and attended Tarpon Springs High School, where she was an honor student and stand-out basketball player.

Shortly before midnight, a vehicle drove by and fired several rounds at the residence; one of those rounds striking and killing Melanie Warren.

The suspect vehicle is described as a Lincoln Continental, 4-door, white in color, with a sky blue vinyl top, possibly a 1978-1979 model in good condition.

The vehicle has hub cap spokes, dark tinted windows, and whitewall tires with thin white stripes.

Exhaustive efforts to identify and locate this vehicle have been unsuccessful to date.  Several theories of the shooting have been developed and are being investigated to this day.

It should be noted that none of these theories suggest any wrongdoing or criminal activity on the part of Melanie Warren.
