A licensed life insurance agent and her husband are facing multiple felony charges after state authorities uncovered a nearly $382,000 life insurance fraud scheme, Florida Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia announced.
Investigators with the Department of Financial Services Criminal Investigations Division (CID) arrested Christine Ann Nunzio and Phillip Salvatore Nunzio on June 26, 2026. State officials allege the couple used their construction company to obtain fraudulent life insurance policies by fabricating employee census records, work histories, enrollment documents, and claims.
According to CID investigators, the policies and claims involved people who never worked for the business, as well as four deceased individuals.
Among the non-employees listed on company paperwork was Christine Nunzio’s father-in-law, who had no documented employment history with the firm. Authorities stated the operation resulted in the theft of $381,849.
“My office has been relentless in catching criminals that drive up costs for policyholders,” Ingoglia said in a statement. “Insurance fraud doesn’t just impact insurance companies, but comes at the expense of every honest, hard-working Floridian. I want to thank my investigators for putting a stop to the Nunzios’ schemes and ensuring that their next date night will be in court.”
Both Christine and Phillip Nunzio face identical charges, including organized scheme to defraud, grand theft, insurance fraud, violation of the Florida Money Laundering Act, and criminal use of personal identification information of a deceased individual.
