An Indiana man’s attempt to enjoy a meal on the house—or, more accurately, on the restaurant’s tab—in Stuart, Florida, has ended with more than just a bill. It ended with him back in police custody as a felony fugitive.
The situation unfolded on October 4th, 2025, when Stuart Police were called to a local restaurant. The complaint? A customer, who identified himself to staff only as “Kali,” had racked up a $93.06 tab and then skipped out.
Witnesses described the man as wearing orange swim trunks, a long-sleeved shirt, and a white baseball cap. “Kali” had promised to return and settle his bill. He didn’t.
From Seafood to Sprint
Officers quickly canvassed the area and spotted a man matching the description walking along SE Federal Highway. When confronted, he stuck to his story, claiming he was on his way back to his hotel to grab his credit card.
Here’s where the dine-and-dash turned into a dead-end dash. When the officers offered him a ride to his hotel to get the card, the man decided his only option was a theatrical exit. He made a run for it, but his brief sprint was no match for the police. He was apprehended within seconds.
“Kali” Was a Fugitive All Along
The plot thickened significantly upon arrival at the Martin County Jail. It was there that “Kali” was identified as Davis Robert Irvin. Not only was he busted for his lunch larceny, but booking also revealed his true identity and a major secret: Irvin was a felony fugitive from justice out of Indiana.
Irvin is now facing a full plate of local charges in Florida, including petit theft, resisting an officer without violence, and providing a false name to law enforcement, in addition to his previous warrant.
