Florida’s education secretary had a terse warning for the Biden administration as it seeks to force school districts to admit biological boys claiming to be transgender onto girls’ sports teams.
This won’t fly in Florida.
Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. was reacting to a proposal by President Joe Biden to unilaterally amend Title IX, the 1972 law that declared women’s education programs, including extracurricular sports, must have parity with men’s.

In floating the rule, Biden’s Education Department said on Thursday, “The proposed rule would establish that policies violate Title IX when they categorically ban transgender students from participating on sports teams consistent with their gender identity just because of who they are.”
The draft regulation also allowed that in “some instances,” high schools and colleges could adopt policies that “limit” transgender students’ participation in sports.
On that point, Biden drew criticism from leftists who wanted the ban to apply universally.
But the rule is targeting more than 20 GOP-led states, including Florida, that have enacted such bans on boys participating in girls’ sports.
Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis made that the law in Florida in 2021.

“In Florida, girls are going to play girls sports and boys are going to play boys sports,” DeSantis said at the time. “We’re going to make sure that that’s the reality.”
In response to Biden, Commissioner Diaz, a Republican, tweeted, “We will never allow boys to play in girls’ sports. We will fight this overreach tooth and nail. And we will stop at nothing to uphold the protections afforded women under Title IX.”
In a statement, as reported by the Florida Standard, Diaz added, “This is a sad, pathetic attempt from a completely inept administration to force their woke worldview on the rest of us.”
“Since Joe Biden can’t get Congress or the Supreme Court to rubberstamp his radical gender ideology, he’s resorted to bullying America’s students through the federal bureaucracy. Good luck – this won’t fly in Florida.”
