A dozen Florida Forest Service firefighters are going to help combat wildfires in Texas, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services said Monday.

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, more than 108,000 acres have burned during the past week outside Del Rio, San Angelo, San Antonio, and Laredo.

“This weather phenomenon is characterized by extreme fire weather and can be compared to the high impact Santa Ana wildfire events that occur in Southern California,” the Texas A&M Forest Service reported.

The Florida Forest Service is part of the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
