Florida Follies: Alabama Woman’s “Stupid” Mulberry Mistake Lands Her In Polk County Jail

A quick trip to Walmart for candy and an Xbox controller ends in a retail theft charge for a 41-year-old woman.

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – An afternoon shopping trip took a wrong turn on Monday for 41-year-old Camelia Lynn Morgan, who the Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested after attempting to leave a local Walmart with a backpack full of unpaid merchandise.

The Alabama resident was apprehended after a deputy responded to a call about a retail theft in progress.

According to a report from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy arrived at the Mulberry Walmart around 2:30 p.m. after receiving a report that a woman, identified as Ms. Morgan, was seen stuffing various items into her backpack. She then reportedly tried to exit the store without paying for the goods.

Among the items recovered from Ms. Morgan’s backpack were earrings, clothing, candy, and an X-Box controller. The total value of the stolen merchandise was reported to be $184.02.

When confronted by the deputy, Ms. Morgan allegedly admitted to the theft, stating she had made a mistake and “was being stupid.” Despite presenting an Alabama identification card, she informed the deputy that she currently resides in Lakeland.

Camelia Lynn Morgan was taken into custody and is being charged with retail theft.
