Florida drivers enjoyed slightly lower gas prices in 2024 compared to the previous year, but the new year has brought a small increase at the pump.
According to AAA, the average gas price in Florida on Sunday was $3.11 per gallon, four cents higher than the same day in 2024. However, prices remain within the range they’ve held for the past four months.
“Although the daily average price is slightly more expensive, Florida gas prices remain within the same range they’ve been in for the past four months,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesperson for AAA – The Auto Club Group.

In 2024, Florida gas prices averaged $3.29 per gallon, compared to $3.41 per gallon in 2023. The highest daily average price in 2024 was $3.64 per gallon, recorded in May, while the lowest was $2.99 per gallon in December.
Lower oil prices contributed to the overall decrease in gas prices last year. U.S. crude oil prices averaged $75.79 per barrel in 2024, nearly $2 less per barrel than in 2023.
However, oil prices have been trending upward recently, with Friday’s closing price reaching $73.96 per barrel, the highest since mid-October.

This increase is attributed to factors such as cold weather in the U.S. and Europe, which drives up demand for heating oil, and renewed optimism about the Chinese economy, a major oil importer.
While gas prices are starting the year slightly higher, it remains to be seen whether this trend will continue. AAA will continue to monitor prices and provide updates to consumers.
