State average falls 15 cents in a week, providing relief to drivers as fall approaches and travel demand wanes.
Florida drivers are finding major relief at the pump as the state’s average price for regular unleaded gasoline continues a steep decline. According to AAA, the average price dropped to $2.95 per gallon on Sunday, marking the tenth consecutive day of decreases and a total reduction of 20 cents.
The new average of $2.95 is 15 cents less than a week ago, 18 cents less than last month, and 18 cents less than at the same time last year.
Mark Jenkins, a spokesperson for AAA, commented on the trend, stating, “This is a welcome relief for Floridians after a summer of fluctuating prices. As we transition into fall, lower fuel demand and the switch to winter-blend gasoline can help ease prices.”

Several factors are contributing to the downward trend. Fall typically sees a decrease in travel as summer vacations end and school resumes, which reduces fuel demand. Additionally, refineries are beginning to produce winter-blend gasoline, which is cheaper to create than its summer counterpart.
However, Jenkins cautioned that the threat of hurricanes remains a wildcard. Any disruption to Gulf Coast refineries or offshore rigs could quickly reverse the current trend.
The most expensive metro markets in the state are West Palm Beach-Boca Raton ($3.12), Gainesville ($3.03), and Naples ($3.00). Meanwhile, the least expensive markets can be found in Punta Gorda ($2.85), Panama City ($2.87), and Crestview-Fort Walton Beach ($2.87).
