Get ready for busy roads and slightly higher gas prices this Thanksgiving holiday in Florida! AAA predicts a record number of travelers, with nearly 4.5 million Floridians expected to venture out 50 miles or more from home.
For those opting for road trips, be prepared to pay a bit more at the pump compared to last year. Rising oil prices are putting upward pressure on gas prices, though AAA doesn’t expect this to significantly impact travel plans.

“An uptick in oil prices has restored upward pressure on pump prices as a record number of Americans prepare to hit the holiday road,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Oil prices increased last week on concerns that rising tensions in Ukraine could impact global crude supplies. While higher oil prices should cause an uptick in prices at the pump, it’s unlikely to be significant enough to cause people to cancel travel plans.”
Last week, the average gas price in Florida dropped to $3.01 per gallon, but by Sunday it had climbed back to $3.12. This is still a reasonable price compared to last Thanksgiving, when the average hovered around $3.03 and even reached $3.41 on Thanksgiving Day itself.
