In the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, the Republican Party of Florida has released a statement pinning blame for the act on a climate of “political violence fueled by the Left’s reckless rhetoric.” The statement, issued by Chairman Evan Power, describes the founder of Turning Point USA as having been “assassinated by a sick and deranged individual.”

“While details continue to emerge, this appears to be the result of political violence fueled by the Left’s reckless rhetoric. From the mainstream media to radical activists, the climate they’ve created has led to tragedy. America must wake up,” the statement from Chairman Power reads.

The statement goes on to praise Kirk’s legacy, noting his belief in “open dialogue” and how he “educated and inspired a whole generation” through his work. It adds that Kirk, “a man of deep faith,” will have a legacy that “will not stop — it will only grow stronger.”

“Our prayers are with the Kirk family, Turning Point, and all who loved him. Our hearts are broken. There was nobody like Charlie, but his movement will continue — fearlessly — because that is exactly what he would have wanted,” Power’s statement continues. “This country must come together in peace, reject political violence, and recognize where dangerous rhetoric has brought us. We must do better. We will do better.”

A formal proclamation from the White House followed this message of condemnation and tribute on Wednesday.

President Donald J. Trump issued a presidential proclamation ordering all U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of Kirk.

The order directs that flags be lowered at the White House, on all public buildings and grounds, at military posts, and on naval vessels across the United States and its territories.

The proclamation states that the action is “a mark of respect for the memory of Charlie Kirk,” and the flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on Sunday, September 14, 2025. The directive also extends to all U.S. embassies, consulates, and other facilities abroad.
