Florida GOP Chairman Dares Democrats To Bring Redistricting “War” To The Sunshine State

Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) Chairman Evan Power didn’t hold back this week after House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries signaled that Florida is a primary target in a looming national battle over redistricting.

The verbal fireworks began when Jeffries reportedly suggested a high-stakes effort to overhaul Florida’s congressional maps. Power quickly issued a blunt response, framing the Democratic strategy as a losing investment based on recent election cycles.

He compared the New York Democrat to a “school yard bully who beats you up and then threatens you not to tell anyone.”

The friction comes as both parties gear up for legal and political maneuvering over how district lines are drawn, a process that can shift the balance of power in Washington. Power pointed to recent special elections as evidence that Democratic spending in the state hasn’t yielded the desired results.

“If Democrats want to come to Florida and burn more of their donors’ money, we welcome it — because we will beat them again and again,” Power said in his official statement. “They already dumped over $20 million into recent Florida special congressional elections and got crushed by double digits.”

Power argued that the political climate in Florida remains firmly in favor of the GOP, claiming that voters have consistently moved away from the Democratic platform. He dismissed the threat of aggressive litigation or campaigning as more of the same, characterizing the previous efforts from the national stage as ineffective.

“Nothing has changed,” Power added. “Floridians have rejected their failed agenda, and they’ll do it again. We have already seen his maximum warfare, and it is like Hakeem Jeffries — weak.”

While the DNC and House Democrats have expressed confidence that legal challenges to current maps could open doors for them in future elections, the Florida GOP remains dug in.

With Power’s latest comments, the stage is set for a protracted fight over the state’s political map heading into the next major election cycle.
