Florida GOP Rips Hakeem Jeffries: “Radical” Rhetoric vs. The Sunshine State Surge

The Republican Party of Florida issued a sharp rebuke Tuesday against House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, citing concerns over violent political rhetoric and the ongoing redistricting process in the Sunshine State.

The statement follows a Saturday assassination attempt against President Donald Trump, which Florida GOP Chairman Evan Power linked to the current political climate and messaging from Washington leadership.

“Hakeem Jeffries is nothing more than a political puppet, and his violent rhetoric against Republicans, especially after a third assassination attempt against President Trump, reminds voters just how radical the Democrat Party has become,” Power stated.

He argued that while the opposition focuses on “insults,” Florida Republicans are focused on economic growth, tax cuts, and managing the influx of new residents moving from blue states.

The friction comes as Florida updates its congressional maps to account for massive population shifts since 2020. Millions of Americans have relocated to Florida, many fleeing high-tax jurisdictions, necessitating a recalibration of district lines to maintain the principle of equal representation.

Power defended the new maps as “responsible governance” based on hard data rather than political maneuvering. The updated redistricting approach moves toward race-neutral districts defined by geography and population totals.

According to the Florida GOP, this shift moves away from what they term unconstitutional racial gerrymandering.

“Democrats want maps drawn to protect politicians. Republicans want maps drawn to represent people,” Power added. “That contrast is exactly why Florida has become the model for the nation.”

With a voter registration lead now exceeding 1.5 million people, Florida Republicans are signaling confidence heading into the 2026 midterm cycle. They contend that the migration patterns and voter data justify the new district boundaries.

Power concluded by dismissing outside criticism, stating that the state does not need “lectures from Washington Democrats” and will continue to prioritize the policies that have driven its recent growth.
