Florida Gov. DeSantis Activates National Guard Ahead of ‘Possible Protests’ in the State

Gov. Ron DeSantis activated the Florida National Guard Friday night in response to possible protests this weekend at the state capitol.

In an executive order, he directed the Guard’s commanding officers to coordinate with state and local enforcement to maintain peace in the state through the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden on Jan. 20.

“Governor DeSantis has said repeatedly that violence of any kind is unacceptable and he thanks law enforcement for taking swift action on this matter,” a statement from the Governor’s Office said Friday night.

Fifty state capitols have been warned by the FBI of the possibility of armed protests in the days leading to Biden’s inauguration on Jan. 20.

According to an online flyer, many of these armed protests planned by people who believe Biden did not win the presidential election are scheduled for today, Sunday.

The immediate executive order remains in effect until Jan. 24, or such time as the assistance to state and local government authorities is complete.

The complete executive order can be read below.
