TAMPA, Fla. – Governor Ron DeSantis announced Friday the reappointment of Will Weatherford to the University of South Florida (USF) Board of Trustees.
Weatherford currently serves as the Chair of the USF Board of Trustees and is a Managing Partner of Weatherford Capital. A former Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville University.
Business and Investment Leadership
- Weatherford Capital: As Managing Partner, Weatherford co-founded the private investment firm with his brothers, Drew and Sam. The firm focuses on growth equity in technology and technology-enabled businesses, often those operating in highly regulated industries (B2B/B2G). He emphasizes providing leadership, building a strong culture, and partnering with innovative leaders who are solving real-world problems.
- Corporate & Non-Profit Boards: Demonstrating continued community and economic involvement, he serves on numerous boards, including:
- Dream Finders Homes (NYSE: DFH)
- GuideWell
- PayIt, Utility, Inc.
- The Florida Council of 100

Political Career and Public Service
- Florida House of Representatives (2006–2014): Weatherford served eight years in the Florida Legislature.
- Speaker of the Florida House (2012): He made history when he was sworn in as the 84th Speaker, becoming the youngest presiding officer of any state legislative chamber in the U.S. at the time.
- Legislative Focus: During his tenure, he was a strong advocate for social mobility through free enterprise and education reform, prioritizing the challenge of generational poverty.
Civic and Educational Roles
- University of South Florida (USF): He currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at USF, a role he continues after his recent reappointment by Governor Ron DeSantis.
- Super Bowl LV Host Committee: He recently served as Co-Chairman for the Tampa Bay Super Bowl LV Host Committee, where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers became the first team in NFL history to win the Super Bowl in their home stadium. Host committees are private, non-profit organizations that serve as the direct liaison to the NFL for the collective hosting effort, focusing on the fan experience and legacy initiatives.
- Education: Weatherford earned his B.S. degree in International Business from the Davis College of Business at Jacksonville University, where he was recruited to play football.
His reappointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
