As Election Day draws near, Democrat Charlie Crist still seeks to convince voters that transiting the kids is the way to go — and in the name of “science,” he wants to fire a Harvard-trained doctor to do so.
On Friday, Florida’s boards of medicine and osteopathic medicine voted to prohibit the treatment of gender dysphoria in children. That includes sex-change operations as well as the application of puberty blockers and hormone treatments.
The vote followed the recommendation of state Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo, who among other evidence cited the fact that several European countries have paused or stopped such procedures because of the unknown long-term effects. Ladapo said back in April that the rush to implement so-called “gender-affirming” care, especially by the Biden administration, was really about “injecting political ideology into the health of our children.”
“Today’s vote from the Boards of Medicine and Osteopathic Medicine will protect our children from irreversible surgeries and highly experimental treatments,” Ladapo said in a statement Friday. “I appreciate the integrity of the Boards for ruling in the best interest of children in Florida despite facing tremendous pressure to permit these unproven and risky treatments. Children deserve to learn how to navigate this world without harmful pressure, and Florida will continue to fight for kids to be kids.”

With the new rules, the state’s position will now be to offer emotional support and behavioral counseling. Studies have shown that 80 percent or more of children eventually grow out of feelings of gender dysphoria by the time they become adults.
Crist, the Democrats’ nominee for governor, believes that is the wrong approach, however.
Not only does he support such treatments for children, for which no long-term studies exist, he belittled Ladapo for recommending it.
In a video posted on Twitter on Saturday evening by DeSantis War Room, which supports incumbent Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, Crist ripped Ladapo as a “quack.”
“When I get elected governor, we will have real scientists that will give us good advice on what we need to do,” he said.
This was not the first time Crist has labeled Dr. Ladapo a quack.
And last week Crist told Florida Phoenix, “When I’m governor, medical standards will be based on science and professional consensus — not right-wing culture war politics. I’ll fire DeSantis’ QAnon Surgeon General and restore access to lifesaving, age-appropriate care.”

Crist clearly wants to allow children to forever alter who they are, even though the science he claims to follow shows 8 percent of them will change their minds.
This is in addition to Crist’s opposition to Florida’s law banning classroom instruction based on sexual orientation and gender identity in grades K-3.
