PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) has announced that all lanes of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge have been reopened after a temporary closure for a law enforcement investigation.

The bridge, a major thoroughfare connecting St. Petersburg and Manatee County, was initially closed at 11:00 AM today, September 24, 2025. Both northbound and southbound traffic were diverted during the closure.

UPDATE (11:38 AM)

Diversion points for motorists were updated. Southbound traffic on I-275 was diverted at 54th Avenue South, while northbound traffic was rerouted at the I-75 and I-275 interchange.

UPDATE (12:26 PM)

All lanes of the Skyway Bridge have now been reopened to traffic. FHP officials did not provide details on the nature of the law enforcement activity that led to the closure.

Motorists should expect residual delays as traffic flow returns to normal. The FHP thanks the public for their patience and cooperation during the temporary closure.
