Florida Highway Patrol is searching for the driver and passengers involved in a hit and run on Howard Franklin Bridge early Saturday morning.

On Saturday, at 5:20 AM, a Mercedes sedan was heading southbound on I-275 in the outside lane near Milepost 35, while a Nissan Pathfinder, trailering a boat, was traveling southbound in the center outside lane parallel to the Mercedes.

Investigators say the driver of the Mercedes lost control of the vehicle which entered the outside shoulder and struck the barrier wall. The car was redirected back into the travel lanes and collided with the trailer towed by the SUV, which jackknifed the SUV, and forced the boat to separate from the trailer.

Troopers say the Mercedes came to a stop and the driver and 3 passengers fled the scene on foot.

The crash closed all lanes of I-275 until 7:40 AM.

The victim, a 36-year-old Tampa man, suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call *FHP or **TIPS.
