ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. – A midday crash on State Road 54 turned fatal Monday when a pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck while attempting to cross the highway.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 1:22 p.m. A Ford F-150, driven by an 82-year-old man from Wesley Chapel, was traveling eastbound on SR-54, just east of Coats Road.
Troopers say a 73-year-old man from Zephyrhills walked into the path of the oncoming truck while trying to cross the road. The driver was unable to stop in time, and the vehicle collided with the pedestrian.

Emergency responders transported the Zephyrhills man to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The FHP has not released the names of those involved.
