A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 near Martin Highway (State Road 714) temporarily disrupted traffic after an intoxicated driver collided with a guardrail and fled the scene, leaving his disabled car blocking the center lane.
According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, 29-year-old Galindo Juarez-Perez struck the guardrail during the daytime incident. Following the collision, the vehicle came to a rest perpendicular to the roadway in the middle of the interstate.
Juarez-Perez then abandoned the car and fled on foot in an effort to evade law enforcement.
Deputies located and tracked Juarez-Perez shortly after the crash. He surrendered to officers near the SR-714 overpass and was taken into custody without further incident.
No injuries were reported as a result of the crash or the abandoned vehicle.
Juarez-Perez, who stated he is from Guatemala, has been charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage, possession of heroin, driving without a valid license, and resisting arrest. Authorities noted he had never been issued a valid Florida driver’s license.
Following his arrest, Juarez-Perez was transported to the Martin County Jail for processing. Traffic on I-95 has since returned to normal operations
