Just twenty minutes after being released from the Brevard County Jail, Kevin Berrios found himself back behind bars after an allegedly ill-advised act of vandalism, as detailed in a colorful statement from Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

Berrios was released from Ivey’s “Iron Bar Lodge” [Brevard County Jail] around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. According to Sheriff Ivey, Berrios quickly encountered Deputy Haney, who was driving a marked patrol car down Camp Road en route to bring another person to jail.

“It all began yesterday as Berrios was released from Ivey‘s Iron Bar Lodge at approximately 3:30 in the afternoon, and within 20 minutes, he encountered Deputy Haney,” Sheriff Ivey stated. “That’s right folks…in broad open daylight this guy decides to throw a rock at a Deputy driving a marked patrol car!!”

Deputy Haney immediately questioned Berrios, who was still walking down the road. “With no good reason as to why, one could only assume he wanted to go back to the Lodge and that’s exactly where he went!!” Ivey said.

Berrios was promptly taken back to the jail, a short distance away.

Further Investigation Reveals More Damage

The incident took a turn when Deputy Haney brought his patrol vehicle to the Fleet Maintenance Building across the street from the jail to get a loaner. There, he noticed other vehicles appeared to have been damaged by rocks.

General Crimes Unit Agent Dylan Cervenak followed up on the criminal mischief investigation. After reviewing surveillance video, investigators found that Berrios was allegedly seen exiting the jail, walking across the street to the Fleet Maintenance Building, and hurling “some objects” toward two patrol cars before heading down Camp Road and throwing the rock at Deputy Haney’s vehicle.

In total, Berrios is accused of causing approximately $3,700 worth of damage to the vehicles.

“So now Berrios finds himself stuck between a rock and a hard place as he is back with his friends at Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge on No Bond!!” Sheriff Ivey concluded, adding that Berrios is likely experiencing the “same sorry accommodations and a one-star dining experience.”

The Sheriff offered a “big thanks” to Deputy Haney and Agent Cervenak for their swift response and investigation.
