MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A Key West man was arrested late Wednesday night following an e-bike crash that led to several drug-related charges and a felony count of smuggling contraband.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, 53-year-old Christian Everett Madrid was operating an electric bicycle near the intersection of South College Road and U.S. 1 at approximately 10:26 p.m. on April 1, 2026. Authorities report that Madrid collided with an adult riding a tricycle.
The individual on the tricycle told deputies that Madrid rode into him and appeared to be intoxicated. Following the arrival of law enforcement, Madrid was asked to perform field sobriety exercises. After failing to complete the exercises successfully, he was taken into custody.

No serious injuries were reported as a result of the collision.
The incident resulted in further charges during the intake process at the detention facility. Deputies reported finding approximately three marijuana cigarettes in Madrid’s possession while he was being booked.
Madrid has been charged with driving under the influence, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additionally, he faces a charge of smuggling contraband into a detention facility.
