Florida Keys High-Speed Chase Ends In Handcuffs After 79-Year-Old Hollywood Man Hits 100 MPH

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A late-night drive through the Florida Keys ended in a jail cell for a Hollywood man after he allegedly led deputies on a dangerous high-speed pursuit down U.S. 1.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested 79-year-old Tyrone James Causey on March 31, 2026, following a series of erratic maneuvers that began near Mile Marker 87. According to authorities, Causey was clocked at 100 mph while heading southbound in a Toyota sedan.

The high speeds were particularly hazardous as the motorist was traveling through an active construction zone around 11 p.m.

Deputies reported that they attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver continued to head south. Throughout the encounter, Causey reportedly tailgated other drivers on the highway and made several illegal passing moves.

Despite the aggressive nature of the driving and the high speeds involved, officials confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident.

The pursuit eventually came to a close near Mile Marker 52.5, where Causey finally brought the Toyota to a stop. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to a local jail facility. Records show that Causey is facing formal charges of reckless driving and speeding.
