Florida Keys Man Tells FBI ‘He’ll Shoot A Deputy’ Then Grabs Sergeant By The Throat During Arrest

A 54-year-old Marathon man is behind bars after federal authorities flagged his death threats against local law enforcement, sparking a confrontation that ended with a supervisor being choked.

David Patrick Williams was booked into jail Friday night on multiple felony charges, including battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and making threats to kill a law enforcement officer.

The chain of events began earlier on May 15, when the FBI contacted the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Federal agents reported they had received a direct call from Williams, who stated he was going to shoot a Monroe County deputy.

Deputies tracked Williams to his home on 4th Avenue and arrived at the residence around 9:39 p.m. to investigate the threat.

The encounter escalated quickly at the front door. According to authorities, Williams initially refused to cooperate, telling deputies he was not going to open the door. When he finally did, he tensed up his body and fought back, pulling away from the officers trying to detain him. During the struggle, Williams grabbed a responding patrol Sergeant by the throat.

Deputies managed to subdue Williams without any serious injuries being reported to either party.

While being questioned about the incident, Williams admitted to investigators that he did make the original phone call to the FBI threatening the deputy’s life. He was transported to a local jail facility following his arrest.
