MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A 66-year-old private process server faces a criminal charge after authorities say she lied about delivering court paperwork to a man who was actually traveling abroad.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Yvette Gonzalez Valdes of Key Largo on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026. She is charged with executing a false return of service.
According to detectives, Gonzalez Valdes was working as a civil process server for an attorney when she filed records stating she had officially served a legal subpoena. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation into the matter in June 2026 after the intended recipient reported that he never received the documents.
Investigators found that the individual named in the subpoena was on vacation outside the United States on the date Gonzalez Valdes claimed the handoff occurred. During the inquiry, Gonzalez Valdes could not provide any photos, messages, notes, or other documentation showing she had delivered the paperwork.
Authorities took Gonzalez Valdes into custody on Tuesday and booked her into the Monroe County Jail.
