A 62-year-old Key Largo resident was arrested Wednesday after authorities say he threatened to shoot a delivery driver and followed the worker in his vehicle.
Richard Alan Fogel was booked into jail on Aug. 19 and faces a charge of assault.
According to law enforcement, the incident occurred around 9:25 p.m. on Aug. 16 in an RV park located along the 96000 block of the Overseas Highway. The delivery driver reported that he was attempting to drop off a package when Fogel approached him, stated he was on the wrong lot, and told him to leave before Fogel shot him.
While the driver told deputies he never saw a firearm, the situation escalated when Fogel got into a vehicle and followed him through the property. Authorities said Fogel attempted to block the driver from exiting the park and continued trailing him onto U.S. 1.
Deputies noted that Fogel provided conflicting statements regarding the confrontation. The victim positively identified Fogel as the suspect, and he was subsequently taken into custody. No injuries were reported.
