A Florida man is behind bars without bond following a violent home invasion and sexual battery that targeted a woman while she was moving out of her apartment.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) announced the arrest of Kelvin Johnson by the agency’s GAMEOVER Task Force. Johnson faces a litany of serious charges, including Sexual Battery, Home Invasion Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and Violation of Probation.

The investigation began on January 5 when deputies responded to a distress call in a residential neighborhood. A female victim had run to a neighbor’s door, banging on it and pleading for help.

According to investigators, the victim was in the process of moving out of her home when the attack occurred. She told detectives she had noticed a man lurking around the premises for several days prior to the incident. On the day of the assault, the suspect allegedly rushed into her apartment, held her at knifepoint, and sexually battered her.

Following the attack, the suspect fled the scene, stealing the victim’s phone and car keys.

Using a detailed description provided by the victim and surveillance footage obtained from the surrounding area, agents identified Johnson as the suspect.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey praised the neighbor who called for help and the swift actions of the investigators who tracked Johnson down.

“My heart breaks for this victim, and we will do everything we can to help her through this time while keeping her perpetrator locked up so he can never victimize anyone else,” Sheriff Ivey said in a statement.

Johnson is currently being held at the Brevard County Jail Complex.
