A 28-year-old Florida man is facing an aggravated battery charge after allegedly stabbing his 12-year-old cousin during a dispute over a video game console.
Andrew Zagazeta was taken into custody on July 31 after police responded to a report of a stabbing at a local residence. According to an arrest report, the victim’s great-grandmother told responding officers that Zagazeta and his younger cousin got into a verbal argument over the gaming console.
She stated that she stepped in to break up the disagreement and did not see a knife during the altercation before Zagazeta left the home.
Shortly after Zagazeta departed, the 12-year-old told his great-grandmother that he had been stabbed in the hip. Paramedics transported the boy to a nearby hospital, where medical staff treated him for a puncture wound roughly 1 centimeter deep.
While speaking with investigators at the hospital, the victim alleged that Zagazeta pushed him after he confronted his older cousin for playing the video game system without permission. The victim noted that he had initially grabbed a knife from a kitchen storage block during the dispute, but placed it back after his great-grandmother intervened.
According to the victim’s statement in the police affidavit, Zagazeta then retrieved a knife hidden behind the television set and struck him in the hip.
Zagazeta remains in custody at the county jail on a $20,000 bond.
