An attempt to serve legal papers in Miramar Beach turned violent last weekend, leaving a 60-year-old man facing felony robbery charges after he allegedly threatened to shoot a court worker and destroyed her phone.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office arrested Terence Wheeler Scott following the confrontation, which occurred on Friday at a home on Mandevilla Lane.

According to investigators, a female civil process server arrived at the residence to deliver paperwork to Scott and his spouse. She told deputies that Scott became verbally aggressive the moment he opened the door. After snatching the documents from her hand, Scott allegedly told the woman he was armed and threatened to shoot her.

As the server tried to back away from the property, Scott reportedly advanced, shoving her and demanding she leave. The situation escalated when he noticed the victim recording the interaction on her cellphone.

Deputies say Scott lunged for the device. When he couldn’t immediately grab it, he ripped the lanyard containing the victim’s identification from her neck. He eventually secured the phone and threw it onto the ground repeatedly, smashing it. The victim told authorities she had to physically defend herself against Scott’s continued shoving to escape the property.

When deputies initially attempted to make contact with Scott, he refused to answer the door. Instead, he called the Walton County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center, stating he would not speak to law enforcement without a lawyer present.

Scott was located and taken into custody later that day. He has been charged with robbery, assault, battery, obstruction, and criminal mischief.

Jail records show Scott was booked into the Walton County Jail and released Sunday afternoon after posting a $15,000 bond.
