A Florida man has been charged in the death of a 31-year-old man who overdosed on Fentanyl.

According to investigators, on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshall’s Caribbean Regional Task Force, arrested Michael Stanley for manslaughter in Green Cove Springs, after an arrest warrant was issued on September 16, by the State Attorney’s Office.

Deputies say on May 11, 2022, deputies responded to an overdose investigation on Wall Road in Green Cove Springs. Upon arrival, deputies found a person unconscious on the kitchen floor.

Clay County Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene and pronounced 31-year-old Aleksejs Kovilov deceased. Illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia were present at the scene of his death and an autopsy determined that Kovilov died of a drug overdose that included Fentanyl.

Narcotics Detectives with the sheriff’s office began their investigation and discovered communications between him and Stanley on Kovilov’s cell phone about purchasing narcotics.

During the investigation, detectives obtained video surveillance on May 10, 2022, showing a meeting with Kovilov and Stanley at a local retail store. During that meeting, Kovilov purchased 0.5 grams of Fentanyl for $80.00 via a Cash App account belonging to Stanley.

During Stanley’s interview with the detectives, Stanley was presented with evidence and made incriminating statements concerning drug sales to Kovilov. Subsequently, Stanley admitted to selling Fentanyl to Kovilov.

Michael Stanley was arrested and is currently booked into the Clay County Jail on charges of manslaughter.
