A mundane traffic dispute in Florida spiraled into a violent “rolling shooting” and ended with a 63-year-old man behind bars facing multiple counts of attempted murder.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the incident that occurred on December 17, 2025, began at the intersection of Branan Field Road and Blanding Boulevard. Investigators say what started as a simple road rage altercation quickly escalated when Ruben Rodriguez Heredia, driving a black pickup truck, began aggressively pursuing a black sedan occupied by three teenagers.

Terrified witnesses flooded 911 lines, reporting seeing the pickup truck chasing the sedan for several miles while the driver fired shots at the fleeing vehicle. The chase finally ended when the teenagers managed to pull into the parking lot of the HCA Middleburg Emergency Center for safety.

Deputies responding to the hospital found three victims in the sedan: two 18-year-old males and one 17-year-old male. One of the 18-year-olds had been struck by a bullet in the leg. Authorities confirmed he was treated at the scene and is expected to make a full recovery. The other two passengers escaped physical injury.

Law enforcement moved quickly to locate the suspect. Within 10 minutes of the initial 911 calls, patrol units spotted Heredia’s truck traveling westbound on CR-218. Deputies executed a high-risk traffic stop near Timberwood Trail, taking Heredia into custody without further incident before anyone else was harmed.

Detectives emphasized that the violence appears to have been completely random. After interviewing witnesses, reviewing security footage, and processing the crime scene, investigators determined Heredia had no prior connection to the teenagers.

“This stemmed solely from road rage,” the Sheriff’s Office stated.

Heredia has been booked into the Clay County Jail on three counts of attempted murder. He is currently being held on a $750,003 bond.

The investigation is ongoing. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with further information to contact them at (904) 264-6512 or submit a tip through SaferWatch.
