Charles Simpkins’ Winning Ticket Just Shy of Jackpot
A Florida man is now $2 million richer after claiming a winning POWERBALL® ticket from the May 31, 2025, drawing. The Florida Lottery announced that Charles Simpkins, 65, of Port St. Lucie, claimed his prize at the Lottery’s Headquarters in Tallahassee.
Simpkins’ winning ticket, a Quick-Pick with Power Play, matched all five of the white ball numbers but missed the red Power Ball number, securing the second-tier prize. He opted to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $2,000,000.
The lucky ticket was purchased from Peacock Liquor, located at 270 N.W. Peacock Boulevard in Port St. Lucie. The store will receive a $5,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.
Florida is a frequent location for Lottery winners, with the Florida Lottery contributing billions to the state’s educational system since its inception. Simpkins is the latest in a line of winners who have seen their lives changed overnight by a simple ticket purchase.
