Daniel R. McCaffrey, 41, formerly of Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, has been sentenced to 35 years in federal prison for the transportation of child pornography, possession of child pornography, and abusive sexual contact with a minor female under the age of 12.

The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, John P. Heekin.

A federal jury previously found McCaffrey guilty of the charges after a trial that exposed the depravity of his crimes. Court records revealed that McCaffrey maintained a hidden child pornography collection on a micro SD card within his residence, where he lived with his then-wife, an active-duty U.S. Air Force member, and their two minor daughters.

Multiple witnesses testified to the personal victimization McCaffrey inflicted upon a minor female he had access to, with the child pornography he possessed reflecting a specific preference for pre-pubescent girls.

U.S. Attorney Heekin condemned McCaffrey’s actions, stating, “There is no penalty severe enough for those who harm our children, and my office will continue to aggressively pursue maximum punishment for these types of crimes. This disgusting defendant not only victimized children online, he also sexually abused a child he had access to on Eglin Air Force Base. The substantial sentence that has been imposed reflects the severity of his crimes, but it cannot make up for the grave harm he has inflicted upon the most vulnerable members of our community.”

FBI Jacksonville Special Agent in Charge Jason Carley reiterated the commitment of law enforcement to protecting children. “The FBI is committed to protecting the most vulnerable individuals in our communities, and especially our kids,” Carley said. “Those who abuse innocent children should know that the FBI and our partners will never stop working to identify you, and we will coordinate the full force of our resources to seek justice for your victims.”

Following his imprisonment, McCaffrey will face a lifetime term of supervised release and a lifelong requirement to register as a sex offender. This stringent oversight aims to protect the community from further harm.

The prosecution was the result of a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI). Assistant United States Attorneys David L. Goldberg and Jessica S. Etherton prosecuted the case.
