A 24-year-old Florida man shot and killed his 23-year-old ex-girlfriend after she wouldn’t return his calls. He was sentenced to life in prison on Wednesday.
In a contested sentencing hearing, Assistant State Attorneys Nader Hatoum and Kari Kies in Brevard County presented evidence. They successfully argued to the court that Carlos Jones II should receive a life sentence for the murder of 23-year-old Sha’Dayla Johnson.
Attorneys for the Public Defender had asked for the 25-year minimum mandatory sentence.
