Florida Man Gets Over Two Years For Threatening To Kill President Trump

A 32-year-old Florida man is headed to federal prison after mailing a letter detailing a plot to assassinate President Donald J. Trump. Christopher Davies of Cape Coral was sentenced to 27 months behind bars by U.S. District Judge Sheri P. Chappell, following a federal investigation into threats that Davies later admitted were more than just empty words.

The saga began when Davies sent a letter to an official at the Charlotte Correctional Institution. In the message, he claimed that he had already “orchestrated the most daring Presidential assassination” in American history. He explicitly wrote that “Donald J. Trump must perish,” a statement that immediately triggered a response from federal authorities.

When the U.S. Secret Service caught up with him, Davies didn’t try to hide behind an alias or deny the handwriting.

During a sit-down interview with agents, he point-blank admitted to writing the letter and confirmed that his intent was to take the President’s life.

Perhaps most chillingly, when investigators asked him what he would do if he were ever actually in the same room as Trump, Davies told them he would try to kill the President with his “bare hands.”

The case, which was investigated by the Secret Service and announced by U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe, wrapped up officially after Davies pleaded guilty back in late October.

Assistant United States Attorney Patrick L. Darcey handled the prosecution, which ultimately resulted in the 27-month sentence handed down this week. Davies will now trade the sunny coast of Cape Coral for a cell in the federal system.
