A 31-year-old Florida man is in custody following the death of his mother at a home in the Hidden Hills neighborhood. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office records indicate that Avery Garrison was arrested on Saturday, January 31, 2026, and is currently being held at the Duval County Jail.
The incident began on the evening of Friday, January 30, when District 2 patrol officers were called to a residence on Bleinheim Place.
The initial call, placed around 8:05 p.m., reported a battery at the location. When officers arrived, they found 62-year-old Jaqueline Jones-Garrison inside the home. Authorities confirmed she had been strangled and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives took over the investigation and quickly identified Garrison as the suspect. According to police reports, Garrison was at the scene when officers arrived and reportedly indicated that his mother required medical help. Investigators noted signs of a physical struggle within the room where the victim was discovered.
Garrison faces a charge of second-degree murder and is being held without bond.
